The legendary Swedish white moose is a rare and elusive animal even in Sweden. Known for its silvery white fur, the giant animal lives in old as well as young forests and has become a majestic symbol of Sweden. Image: ESS-ENN Timber.

ESS-ENN Timber, the Swedish producer of laminated solid wood products, manufactures edge-glued panels that are the first worldwide to be Cradle to Cradle Certified® at the Silver level.

Cradle to Cradle Certified® is a globally recognized measure of sustainable products for the circular economy. To receive certification, the products are assessed for environmental and social performance across five critical sustainability categories: Material Health, Material Reutilization, Renewable Energy, Water Stewardship, and Social Fairness. These categories are the basis for the achievement level of the final certification. The product must meet at least the Silver standard in all categories in order to be certified at the Silver level.

ESS-ENN Timber’s edge-glued panels are the first in the world to be awarded a Silver level Cradle to Cradle certification.

Our products adhere to high standards regarding circularity and sustainable manufacturing. This award demonstrates that our panels are among the world’s most climate-friendly solid wood products. This is a big achievement that has been made possible by our long-term focus on sustainability, says Caroline Troedson, Site Manager at ESS-ENN Timber.

In addition, ESS-ENN Timber’s edge-glued panels achieved the Gold level in the Cradle to Cradle Certified Material Reutilization, Renewable Energy, and Social Fairness categories.

The company is one of the leading producers of edge-glued panels in Scandinavia, with an annual capacity of 18,000 cubic meters. ESS-ENN Timber strives for sustainable, circular operations and to conserve natural resources.

For every tree cut down as part of our operations, at least two new ones are planted, which secures the future forest stock. In addition, young forest binds more CO2 than old forest, which ultimately benefits the climate, says Caroline Troedson.

ESS-ENN Timber’s edge-glued panels consist of Swedish solid wood, and the proportion of wood in the product is as high as 99.98 percent. Other wood products, such as chipboard and MDF, often contain upwards of 10 percent glue.
